Training - Manual Handling

Manual Handling - photoThis course is designed to train individuals in the recommended method of manual handling of loads where lifting, lowering, pushing or pulling is involved. The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations require employers to train their employees where manual handling involves a risk of injury to employees particularly where there is a risk of back injury.
The tutor is a qualified manual handling training instructor.
FÁS grant aid may be available.

Content Of Training

The structure, anatomy and biomechanics of the spine and good posture
Familiarisation with safety legislation relating to manual handling
Principles and practices of manual handling techniques
The role of ergonomics and problem solving
How the spine is injured
The benefits of fitness

Training Resources

Classroom tuition. Audio-visual presentation equipment (overhead projector, flip chart or white board, video). The use of props (model of spine, lifting person). Practical demonstrations in the workplace where feasible. Relevant handouts given.

Course Evaluation & Certification

Individuals are required to complete a written assessment and are awarded a certificate on completion.

Venue & Duration

Training is normally conducted at the employer's premises. Training takes 3 to 4 hours per group.

Number Of Delegates

Maximum 12 individuals per group.
